Trapped in the mineshaft, Steph and Dan discuss their personal issues. Steph warns Dan of the dangers of delaying a decision when it comes to matters of the heart. She advises him to choose between Sam and Libby soon, before anyone gets really hurt. Eventually they're discovered by the rescue team but Dan is horrified to hear that they still can't find Ned and Steve. Ignoring his own welfare, he heads back down into the mineshaft to dig out the rest of his crew. Having proved himself a hero, he finally heads to the hospital. However, as he tries to tell Libby that he's made a decision, the true extent of his injuries becomes apparent and he collapses into her arms.
Ned is knocked unconscious in the collapse and Steve struggles to control his claustrophobia. When Ned comes to, he tries to keep him talking but all Ned wants to discuss is Steve's strained relationship with their father. Steve hints at a violent and unhappy childhood but Ned passes out again before he can reveal the full story. When Dan rescues them and Ned receives treatment, Miranda tries to convince Steve to tell his brother the truth about their dad, for both of their sakes.
Unaware that Ned has had an accident, Kirsten grudgingly takes Mickey to work with her. When news breaks that Ned is in hospital, Mickey is devastated to overhear his mum discussing the fact that his dad might die. It is only when they see him with their own eyes that either of them can relax. Mickey sagely notes that Kirsten should have her boyfriend with her in such troubled times. Kirsten is shocked to realise that her son has picked up on her relationship with Paul and quickly tries to set him straight.
Frazer and Rosie help Carmella and Marco move into Number 24. In the process, Frazer discovers that he and Marco make a great team and proposes they open a restaurant together. Carmella encourages Marco to believe that now might be the time to put family loyalty aside and follow his dream.
